Jerry Garcia Birthday Art & Music Show

Jerry Garcia Birthday Art and Music Show. Music By Tony Saunders Band and Keystone Revisited.

A Night of Jazz, Groove & Garcia!

As we celebrate the birthday of Jerry Garcia, we invite you join us for a powerful evening of music as Tony Saunders takes the stage in Sausalito with two electrifying sets: one featuring the smooth, jazz-infused sounds of the Tony Saunders Band, and the other celebrating the legendary collaboration between Jerry Garcia and Merl Saunders with the band Keystone Revisited.

Tony’s journey began in his youth, playing alongside his father, Merl Saunders, and Jerry Garcia during the legendary Monday night jam sessions at the Sand Dunes—an experience that shaped his musical soul. The Tony Saunders Band channels the spirit of those nights, bringing a jazz-forward sound reminiscent of Merl’s band Aunt Monk, where Jerry would often sit in, stretching musical boundaries and blending genres.

Following this dynamic opening set, Keystone Revisited will take you back to the golden era of Garcia/Saunders, Reconstruction, and Legion of Mary—the groups that gave birth to the iconic Live at Keystone recordings. This special performance features:

Word of Mouth: True Stories Told Live at the Sausalito Center for the Arts

Word of Mouth
True Stories Told Live at the Sausalito Center for the Arts

Theme: “A Change Could Do You Good”

Let the power of the spoken word entertain and transport you to a deeper understanding of yourself, your community, and the world. Join host Corey Rosen — veteran of The Moth, creator of Simply Said at the Lark Theater, and author of Your Story, Well Told — for the exciting Word of Mouth, a new storytelling series at the Sausalito Center for the Arts.

Each show brings together an enthusiastic audience of story lovers — some there to listen, and others brave enough to take the stage. The stories are short (just 5 minutes), absolutely true, and told without notes in the tradition of The Moth.

How it works:

Before the show begins, anyone in the audience who has a story to tell can drop their name into a storytelling hat at the door. During the show, 10 names will be randomly drawn, and those lucky storytellers will take the stage to share their story on the evening’s theme — this month: “Opening Night.”

Each story is scored by a panel of audience judges based on how well it connects to the theme, and the emotional or narrative impact it leaves. At the end of the night, the highest-scoring teller will be crowned our Word of Mouth Champion — with all the glory, bragging rights, and applause that go with it.

Whether you come to tell or just to listen, you’ll leave inspired, moved, and maybe even laughing through tears. It’s not a performance. It’s not a contest (okay, maybe a little). It’s a celebration of honesty, humor, and the simple magic of one human voice in a room full of others.

Come be part of the show. We promise you’ll be glad you did.
